Life Flashes

'Make your wish count. Discover, decide and discuss organ and tissue donation'.

I'm calling out to all of my creative friends today to join up for a fun photographic competition.

I'm a member of the Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Vic). It's an organisation that assists pre and post heart and lung transplant recipients at the Alfred Hospital.

The HLTTV is running an online photographic competition named 'Life Flashes' through December and January to celebrate DonateLife Week (24th February - 3rd March 2013) and promote organ and tissue donation.

DonateLife Week is organised by the Organ and Tissue Authority and held every year to promote organ and tissue donation. The theme of DonateLife Week 2013 is 'Make your wish count. Discover, decide and discuss organ and tissue donation'.

How the competiton works:

  • Take / create a photo for DonateLife Week in line with the 'Make your wish count. Discover, decide and discuss organ and tissue donation'.
  •  Write a  50-100 word essay to accompany your photo to explain how it relates to the theme and promotes organ and tissue donation.
  •  All photographs will be published on the HLTTV Facebook page, and shortlisted photographs will be blown up and printed on large canvasses and displayed at The Alfred Hospital during DonateLife Week 2013. They'll be seen by thousands of visitors and staff.
  •  There will also be a small launch event at the start of DonateLife week where prizes will be awarded to the winners.

I know that everyone is really busy in the lead up to Christmas, but you have until January 31st 2013 to submit an entry that is eligible for judging and prizes.

This project is sponsored by the Organ and Tissue Authority.

So what do you think? Are you in? Sign up below!

The official 'Life Flashes' competition details

  1. The competition is open to everyone – anyone can enter, and entrants can submit multiple photographs.
  2. Photographs must promote organ and tissue donation, preferably using the DonateLife Week 2013 theme 'Make your wish count. Discover, decide and discuss organ and tissue donation'.
  3. Photographs must be accompanied by a 50-100 word essay outlining how the photograph promotes organ and tissue donation, and/or relates to the DonateLife Week theme. If an essay does not accompany the photograph it will not be considered for prizes.
  4. Photographs must be submitted to Louisa Walsh, Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Vic) Inc. Membership Officer via email: membershipofficer@hlttv.org.au along with the essay. Photographs need to be larger than 2 MB, the bigger the better to blow up and print on to canvas for exhibition!
  5. As photographs are submitted they will be published on a dedicated facebook page. The entrant's first name and essay will be published alongside the photograph.
  6. Offensive photographs or language in the essays will not be accepted for publication.
  7. Photographs will be shortlisted by the Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Vic) Inc committee. Shortlisted photographs will then be judged by a 3 person panel, which will include a representative from the Organ and Tissue Authority. There will be a first, second and third place decided by the panel, as well as a People's Choice that will be judged through 'Likes' on facebook. There will be prizes for all place getters and the People's Choice award winners.
  8. Prize winners will be contacted in the week before DonateLife Week via email.
  9. All shortlisted photographs will be printed and displayed during DonateLife Week 2013, with a small launch event at the start of DonateLife Week.
  10. By submitting images and essays to the 'Life Flashes' competition you are consenting to their possible future non-profit use by the Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Vic) Inc and the Organ and Tissue Authority in awareness raising, promotional and educational material, including on websites, social media, and in paper-based publications. When used by the HLTTV or the OTA, the photograph will be credited to the original photographer.
