Swapsies

The fabulous thing about selling at a craft market is that you get to meet lots of other amazing crafters.... and you even get to swap your wares!

I was lucky enough to come home with some gorgeous Flickettysplits creations from the Made'n'Thornbury market, while Troischats went home with an IOU a Burnt Pumpkin Orange Corduroy Handbag from me.

We've been on the lookout for the perfect shade of burnt pumpkin orange corduroy ever since, but with no luck...... until she found this burnt pumpkin orange fuzzy fabric instead.

It arrived in the mail yesterday, and as today is Troischat's birthday, I went straight to work to whip up the handbag so that we could meet up at the Sisters Market thisafternoon.

The strap folds wouldn't even fit under the presser foot of my poor old Janome, so it was the trusty Vintage Singer to the rescue (after I printed out the instructions to try to work out how to change the bobbin, and then broke three needles).

Look..... no floppy bottom on this one!

I finished in the nick of time, and took a few quick snapshots in the morning light before I headed out to meet up with the ladies who lunch for a long relaxing brunch (I really didn't mean for that to rhyme)!

Then it was off to the market to check out all the gorgeous crafty wares on offer. It was crafty blog central with Bec, Fi, Justine, and Jay.

Such a perfect day....

what an amazing colour...
I too hate trying to sew through thick fabric and i am alawys breaking needles...
I'm always terrified they are going to fly up and hit me in the eye...
I use to have a old singer treadle machine...unfortunetly i don't have it anymore...they were so good...

Hi CurlyPops,

I spotted you at the Sisters' Market yesterday.

It was nearly very embarrassing, but I saw you just in time!!

I was making a purchase at Finki (being served by Mr Finki I presume) and was waiting to speak with Ms Finki but she was busy with some customers. I had wanted to tell her that I recognised her work from the post you did following the Made n Thornbury market (had planned on going, but misread the advert, thought it had said the Sunday...... Note to self: eye test required). Anyway..... it stayed busy so I thought I'd move on and it was then that I spotted you (I was a little unsure at first but then recognised Tinnie Girl next to you from the Stitches and Craft show). Anyway (again).....inwardly I went a deep shade of beetroot as I had imagined myself saying "Hi Finki, just wanted you to know that I recognised your great stuff from CurlyPops blog", only to hear a ahem hmm from you behind me). I would have been mortified!

That was enough to scare me off approaching you. Sort of like seeing a "celebrity" in the street where you inadvertently try not to stare (but still do) and don't want to bother them, but at the same time hope that out of nowhere, they want to strike up a conversation with you (as if).

So I slinked my way on out of there feeling like the coward that I was.

In conclusion (this really has turned into a Yr 10 school essay) it really was lovely to "see" you, being a craft celebrity and all. I hope you enjoyed the market, I thought it was the best one yet (three $50 notes seemed to have mysteriously left my purse by the time I left).

Thanks for your blog and crafty goodness.

Jen in Melbourne
(specifically Brunswick yesterday).

Hey JasperBoy Jen,
You just cracked me up big time!
I'm usually not very hard to spot in a crowd. You're lucky I didn't run over your toe... I managed to run over lots of toes while I was there yesterday:)
I couldn't email you back because I just got that pesky little "no reply comment" blogger thingy.
You'll definitely have to say hello at the next Thornbury market.

It was a fabulous day indeed.

I'm going to visit Jasper Boy now and tell her she should have said Hi for sure.

Turns out I'm not visiting Jasper Boy at all. I thought she must have had her own blog!

Thanks CurlyPops! I didn't select the e-mail thingy in case the craft posse made a bee-line for me to protect you from celebrity stalkers.

Feel free to contact me at jenstar11(at)optusnet(dot)com(dot)au, of course doing so at your own peril.

Sorry TinnieGirl, no blog I'm afraid. I don't craft either. No market stall. No Etsy. No BigCartel. No Made It. No baking (or any cooking for that matter). No cute anecdotal stories of my child/children (Jasper is a dog). Clearly no inventive blogger name. So to save you any further disappointment, I'll cut to the chase. You're thinking what is she even doing here??
For some unknown reason, I am interested in things that I have no talent for. A talent for hogging other people's comments sections perhaps??

PS's
CurlyPops - All toes accounted for. Now don't get me wrong, I love the young uns and realise that they are entitled to some form of transportation, however those pram wheels to the back of the ankles can inspire road rage of a totally different nature....

TinnieGirl - now I feel obliged to offer my second confession of the day. I did come to your S&C show stall to see your wares and meet you. In fact you spoke to me. The words were "You can open them if you like". I used this opening to summon up the courage to reply, "Thanks". And there endeth another memorable meeting with a fan.

This is one fantastic color. And I've never seen such loveliness in the flesh - in fact I'm seriously in need of finding some fabric shops other than the big chains around here as they don't have a lot in the way of fab colors (particularly for winter fabrics).

You whipped that up so quickly - and you fit in a self-taught 'how to' on the old machine. Terribly impressed!!

Curlypops, I've just found this post on your blog .... clearly I am WAY behind in my reading! I absolutely love this bag, and it gets comments wherever I go. I will send people in your direction!!
